I, Trulla Delores Atkins, was only three years old when our family suffered the tragic loss of our father, Mr. Love Joy Atkins. Love Joy was a Railroad Section Hand for the Illinois Central Railroad. He was going between two train cars and the train started up, throwing him beneath the wheel of the train crushing one of his legs. He was taken to the Illinois Central Hospital, Paducah, Kentucky, where he died a few days later on his birthday, February 18, 1939, from the loss of blood. He was survived by my mother, now The Late Mrs. Clemmie Dunbar Atkins and six children. My living sister and brother are: Mrs. Mary Helen McCauley, Hickman, Kentucky; and Mr. Jimmie D. Atkins, Alburquerque, New Mexico. My deceased brothers are: The Late Charles Atkins, The Late Howard D. Atkins, and the Late Reverend William Thomas Atkins. Besides Reverend Atkins being a minister, he followed in his father's footsteps as a Section Hand on the Illinois Central Railroad. Reverend Atkins was also a retiree of the Illinois Central Railroad. Love Joy also had a brother that had a career on the Illinois Central Railroad, The Late Albert Atkins. He also had two sisters; The Late Mrs. Willie Mitchell and the Late Mrs. Mammie Lou Beasley.
