John Pete Algee is a retired Illinois Central Canadian Railroad engineer/trainmaster, US Army Veteran and former VISTA worker supervisor Algee was the first elected black city official for the city of South Fulton (1984). He is recognized regionally for his extensive work as an activist and community advocate and has received, among others: The Fulton/South Fulton Chamber of Commerce 1986 Citizen of the Year Award, The Masonic 2009 Citizen of Year Award, The University of Tennessee at Martin’s 2010 Civil Rights Award for Outstanding Contributions to West Tennessee and the Fulton KY 2011 Martin Service Award.
BIOGRAPHY
John (Pete”) Algee lives in South Fulton Tennessee. He is married to the former JoAnn McKinney. They have one son, Cory and a grandson Keshawn. The family attends the Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Fulton.
Algee attended West Kentucky Technical College, for Building Construction certification, (1964-1966), graduated from the fourth United States Army Non Commission Officers Academy (1968); and attended the University of Tennessee at Martin, majoring in sociology (1969- 1971). In addition to his dedication to his family and career, he is an avid golfer and community service volunteer.

Provided resource and technical assistance for Vista Volunteers and Staff working in all fields of social service design and delivery from welfare to rural transportation. Developed appropriate strategies for staff to monitor and evaluate their performance in achieving specific goals and objectives. Developed solutions to VISTA Volunteers’ Administrative Problems, inadequate housing, and transportation. Developed, scheduled, and designed staff training.
